Yoga 101

If you've never done yoga before you may think it's a series of crazy pretzel poses, or even a religion. It's neither of these things. In fact, the physical practice of yoga (asana) is just one of eight "limbs" of yoga, which can encompass all parts of your life – how you breathe, what you eat, how you are in your relationships, your thoughts, and your work. But most beginners are just interested in the physical practice of yoga, because they want to get in better shape, become stronger and more flexible. Yoga will do wonders for the body in a very short time. Yoga will improve your posture, strength, flexibility, endurance, concentration, discipline and even your mood.

The best way to start a yoga practice is to take a Basic Flow class (see our class schedule). The class will make you aware of how to control your breathing and then we'll slowly work on introducing you to basic yoga poses, like Sun Salutations. Starting with the very first class, you will gain flexibility and begin to build up strength, especially in your core. After just a few Basic Flow classes you won't believe how much better you feel. As you progress in your practice, you can try any of our other classes and the effects will be even greater. You will notice it throughout your day.
